Pacifies Vāta and Kapha doṣas; may increase Pitta in excess due to its heating potency.
Acts primarily on Annavaha, Manovaha, and Prāṇavaha srotas — supporting digestion, nervous balance, and respiratory function.
Jatiphala is a classical Agnivardhinī dravya that harmonizes the gut, mind, and senses.
It is used both internally and externally in various Chikitsās for gastrointestinal, neurological, and psychological disorders.
It is beneficial in:
Agnimāndya (Low digestive fire, indigestion)
Atīsāra (Diarrhea, dysentery)
Aruchi (Loss of appetite)
Vāta-kaphaja Jvara (Fever with cold, congestion)
Kāsa–Śvāsa (Cough, asthma)
Anidra (Insomnia, disturbed sleep)
Manda-smṛti (Poor memory, confusion)
Śūla (Abdominal colic, cramps)
Hridaya-kampa (Palpitations, anxiety)
Mutra-vikāra (Urinary discomfort)
Externally, Jatiphala paste is applied over the forehead for headaches and used in Abhyanga tailas for nervous exhaustion.
Myristica fragrans seeds contain myristicin, elemicin, eugenol, safrole, and fixed oils, giving them carminative, sedative, antimicrobial, and neurotonic properties.
Modern pharmacology supports its actions as a digestive stimulant, anti-diarrheal, memory-enhancing, and mild anxiolytic agent.
In small doses, it promotes clarity and sleep; in higher doses, it may act as a hallucinogenic or irritant — hence used carefully in Ayurveda.

(Use under physician supervision; high doses can cause Pitta aggravation or nervous disturbance.)
The word Jatiphala means “the fragrant fruit,” reflecting its aromatic and subtle action on manas (mind).
Revered in Ayurveda for digestive toning, mental calm, and natural sleep induction.
Acts as a natural nervine and gastrointestinal balancer, especially in Vāta-Kapha dominated conditions.
Used in Pañchakarma as an ingredient in Sneha formulations for Vātika rogas.
In Siddha, Jākai is used in “Chukku–Milagu–Thippili–Jākai” combinations for cold, cough, and sluggish digestion.
