Doshic Action

Therapeutic Indications

Bakucī is one of the most important herbs in Kustha (skin disease) chikitsā, especially for disorders involving depigmentation, scaling, or dryness.
It is also used as a Rasāyana for rejuvenation and vitality.

It is beneficial in:

• Śvitra (Leucoderma, vitiligo)

• Kustha (Chronic skin diseases – psoriasis, eczema, dermatitis)

• Raktadushti (Impure blood, inflammation)

• Vranaroga (Ulcers, wounds)

• Kṣaya (General debility, tissue loss)

• Śotha (Inflammation, swelling)

• Prameha (Metabolic imbalance, diabetes)

• Kṛmi roga (Microbial / parasitic disorders)

• Tvak rogāḥ (Allergic and autoimmune skin diseases)

Externally, Bakucī Taila or paste is applied on hypopigmented or rough skin to stimulate healthy melanin formation.

Pharmacological Insights

Psoralea corylifolia seeds are rich in psoralen, bakuchiol, isopsoralen, and flavonoids, which possess photosensitizing, antioxidant, antimicrobial, and regenerative effects.
Modern studies validate its role in melanogenesis (stimulating pigment), wound healing, and antimicrobial therapy.
Bakuchiol, a key compound, shows retinol-like activity — rejuvenating skin and reducing inflammation without irritation.

Anupāna & Dose

• Cūrṇa (Powder): 1–2 g twice daily with warm water or ghee

• Taila (Oil): External application on affected area once or twice daily

• Kvātha (Decoction): 30–50 ml once daily before food
